Food Vendor Launch Kit · 2026 Edition

Illinois

Every state permit, fee and form

One PDF for Illinois: every state-level license, fee and agency you need to start a food truck, trailer, cart or food stall at a farmers market, with a direct link to the official page behind every number, so you can confirm it yourself instead of taking our word for it. Local permits are set by each county or city, so the biggest local markets are priced and every kit tells you how to find the office that covers you.

Get the Illinois kit: $39

The kit is $39, which is the cheapest line item in your launch. The expensive part was never a fee: it is applying for a permit in the wrong order and losing six weeks. Every figure was checked against an official Illinois government source, and when Illinois changes a rule you get the corrected kit at no extra cost.

This is a food business kit. If you sell crafts, art or other non-food goods, most of it will not apply to you.

Look inside

Two real pages from the Illinois kit.

Not a mock-up and not a sample chapter. This is the page that carries the direct links, and the Illinois at-a-glance page.

Why this exists

The information is public. It’s also scattered and often wrong.

Every figure in this kit was checked against an official Illinois government source, and that source link sits beside the number. Two things it turned up:

Illinois: mobile food permit

A Chicago license is NOT valid in suburban Cook County or the collar counties: those are separate jurisdictions with their own permits. Chicago also runs its own food-safety certificate regime.

Illinois: business entity

If you file an assumed name (DBA), the fee is prorated by where you land in the state's five-year cycle: $150/$120/$90/$60/$30. There is no flat fee.

What’s covered

Illinois food permits, completely, and nothing you’ll never use.

  • Entity filing. Illinois Secretary of State: the fee, the recurring cost, and the direct filing link.
  • Mobile food permit. Chicago BACP inside the city; Cook/DuPage/Lake/Will/Kane county health departments outside it: which office issues it, what it charges, and the application page.
  • Cottage food. Home-to-Market Act (PA 102-0633), amending 410 ILCS 625: the cap, what registration it takes, and the statute itself.
  • Sales tax registration plus the commissary, market, and insurance question lists.
